Dark Matter and Macaroni/Cheese, April 2011

Hi all,

Astronomers have found a mysterious substance called "dark matter". It accounts for 76% of the energy of the universe yet it is little understood. This is because the scientists are looking in the wrong place. If only they would ask Spencer and Preston they would learn what dark matter is and how to cook it up right. Let me explain,

Spencer, Preston and Lauryn came over to the house on Saturday and we were eating the all time favorite of macaroni and cheese. Spencer and Preston informed us that we did not cook the macaroni and cheese right. The macaroni wasn’t “dark enough”. But Spencer and Preston don’t just tell you what’s wrong, they tell you how to fix it. Spencer wrote the following on piece of paper and told us not loose it:

So, we say to astronomers, "Leave the Noodles in the Pot" and you will get dark matter. Then, for good measure, Spencer gave us the following counsel:

On another babysitting episode this week Jaimee Joy came up with a beauty. While eating dinner, Jaimee asked me to lift the bread off the bread plate (we had the missionaries over for dinner so we had the bread on our nice platter which has a drawing and words etched on the bottom). Jaimee said, “Look that bread plate has ancient writings on it”.

Preston Birthday, March 2011

Hi All,

Preston had a Buzz Light Year Birthday. It was great. We enjoyed Buzz Light Year Cake and action figures. We were amazed as Preston figured out how to call his mother's cellphone on my cellphone; we were enthralled as Spencer taught us esoteric snake facts and we were entertained as Lauryn crawled all over the place and made tongue-over-teeth movements.

It was a great night for all of us Space Rangers

Cross Country Skiing at Ruby's Inn at Bryce Canyon, March 2011

Hi All,

This week we went to Ruby’s Inn in Bryce Canyon for cross country skiing. The weather and the snow were beautiful. The first day we skied around the rim of the canyon. Afterwards we sat in the hot tub and then went to dinner. We stayed in the Best Western Grand which is a new hotel across the street from Ruby’s Inn. We got a great rate on a beautiful room. The next day we skied on some beautiful trails by Ruby’s Inn itself and not by the rim. We had a good time and hope we can do this again with some of you!

So, How's Your Toilet Paper? March 2011

We tended Jaimee and Brandon on Friday night. We had a dinner they both liked and we made chocolate chip cookies which they both really liked. They were both funny as heck, but Jaimee, particularly, was on a roll.

She started off by saying a blessing on the food, “Please bless Brandon that he won’t whine, scream and yell”.

She typed some random letters on the computer and told us that they were Spanish words.

I told her I made some soup and asked her to try it. She tasted it and said it was very good. However, at the end of the meal she said, “I don’t like the soup I just said that to make you happy”.

After telling us about the “features” of many dinosaurs, she said, “Nobody knows how Dinosaurs died but my Dad and I know. A masteroid crashed and killed them”. Brandon piped in and said, “My dad knows everything”.

Brandon began the evening by telling me, “I have a problem”. The problem was that he could not remember a particular song.

And finally, Jaimee went to the bathroom. After doing her business, she told me, "You have better toilet paper than we do. Your's is softer". So, how's your TP folks? You need to get soft toilet paper, in case Jaimee makes an unannounced visit to your house. You wouldn't want to be on the dark side of the toilet policewomen!!!

THE LITTLE COOKS

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

We went to Colorado this week to visit Conrad and Debbie. We had a lovely trip. Thursday night we watched the movie, “Inception”, which was excellent. Friday we went skiing. It was snowy and cold, but most people had a good time skiing. We even had a featured downhill run from Conrad. That night we went to Pei Wei for dinner.

Saturday we watched the BYU versus San Diego State game and went to an IMAX showing of the Hubble telescope which was great. We had a chicken scallopini dinner together and Joseph, Jayce’s brother, and Cammy joined us. Sunday Jordan and Tim came over for a featured dinner cooked by a Jedi Master, Dad, and his Padawan learner, me.

Monday we had an uneventful trip home.

It was a great trip!

Home Improvements, Feb 2011

Hi All

I know you're dying to see the new home improvements so I've put a couple of pictures on the blog. They were fun projects with more to come. I made
a washingmachine pad and sanded/stained dining room chairs and painted the dining room.

Disneyland Feb 2011

We spent a week at Disneyland with Nate and Beth’s family and had a wonderful time. Here is a brief sketch of events:

We left Sunday and stayed in Saint George. We went on a hike up Snow Canyon where Spencer asked why Jesus made pointed rocks that hurt people? Any thoughts on helping Beth answer the deep questions of why people must suffer pointy rocks on their feet? Later in the trip Spencer was also concerned about "why we pray so much"? This is a good question, particularly when we're busy trying to fit in all the Disneyland rides. Lauryn was feeling sick, so Mom and Dad got little sleep.

The first day at Disneyland we went on the submarine ride, the Matterhorn, Buzz Light year, the motocross and other exciting rides. We played games of Uno at the Motel and swam in their pool.

The next day we went to California Adventure. We particularly enjoyed Soaring over California, Toy Story Midway mania (where you shot at targets while going through different Disney scenes), bugs life boogey, and other great rides. We stayed for Disneys Wonderful World of Color which was quite a spectacular show. Unfortunately, Lauryn continued to be sick. Nate and Beth made an unintended trip to the hospital but fortunately she was alright.

The next day we went back to Disneyland and rode on Indiana Jones, went over to Bugs Life and rode the boogey ride as well as California Soaring. We went to Toy Story Midway Mania where Nate and Beth fought it out for the most points scored. By the way, on one ride Beth had the most points while at the same time holding Lauryn. We went to a sit down restaurant that night at Mimis. The funniest event of all was walking out of Disneyland that night with Preston crying out, “I never ever ever want to go to Disneyland again because I am too tired, tired, tired. Thus ended Disneyland ( forever, forever, forever??).

The next day we went to Laguna Beach. We made sandcastles, saw hermit crabs and a big crab sunning himself and pelicans. Lauryn loved the beach. That night we watched Spencer do flips into the pool. It was awesome. Unfortunately the boys were sick that night, while Lauryn got better.

The next day we drove home. It was a great trip.
