Spencer, Preston and Lauryn, December 2011

We watched Spencer, Preston and Lauryn while Nate and Beth went to Phoenix. It was a lot of fun though I have pneumonia and so was only there for part of the time. Spencer made it clear to us that when his mom and dad are gone, he is in charge. They were delightful, easy-to-tend children. Here’s some pictures of them:

Thanksgiving 2011

Hi All,

We had a fun Thanksgiving. Chris and Lisa and kids came over on Tuesday night. We took them to the Zoo on Wednesday, I played the usual Castle Risk and we made Thanksgiving decorations. We had twenty people for Thanksgiving dinner—Chris and Lisa and kids, Nate and Beth and kids, Brian and Mindi and kids, Burt and Betty, Kaelynn and us. We had lots of food including chocolate pie, blueberry pie and the traditional pumpkin pie. We played with the kids outside as well as an UNO game inside. Here are some pictures:

Halloween 2011

Hello All,
We had a fun Halloween party at the house. We had lunch and played games such as bobbing for apples, shooting the witch, and coloring Halloween pictures. We also had a lot of fun wrestling with each other. Here are some pictures of the event:

Everyone had a good time at the Halloween party. Right afterwards, Sandy and I drove down to Cedar City to see Chris and Lisa. Here are some Halloween pictures from Cedar City:

Random September and October Events, 2011

We took Jaimee, Brandon, Spencer, and Preston to the zoo. Jaimee told us she had to sit in the back because she wanted her “privacy”. Brandon said his dad is very “annoying”—he tells funny jokes all the time. Spencer’s reading ability was absolutely amazing. He read all the signs. He read one sign that said something like “Show the animals respect and dignity by being quiet and respectful”. Jaimee said to me and Preston, “You fools, you missed the birds”. At another event this month Jaimee told me that I will die before her but she will miss me.

Marilyn Pettingill, one of our old friends in North Salt Lake, died this week. It was very unexpected. She was our age. We went to see Ric, her husband. I was reminded of the great humility in our ward in North Salt Lake. There isn’t the kind of vanity in that area that there is amongst some in Centerville. We saw some old friends at the funeral—Chambers, Woods, Adams, Arla Westinskow, Chatmans, etc.

Robin and Richard visited this weekend. We went on a bike ride with them, went on a drive with them, went to the Temple, and went on a hike with them up Centerville Canyon to see petrogliphs. Here are some pictures of the trip:

Spencer Birthday, He-Man and Artists, Sept 2011

Hi All,

Spencer had his seventh birthday this week. We watched Lauren and Preston while Nate and Beth took Spencer to a movie. Afterwards they took him to Red Robin to buy his favorite—Macaroni and Cheese. Spencer tells us that Red Robin makes the best macaroni and cheese in the world. That evening Spencer had a Sea Monster Birthday party. Here are some party pictures.

This Saturday we watched Spencer and Preston while Beth went to a shower. Spencer said his Mother told him he could play with me for 20 hours. We went walking all over the yard and the park “looking for wild animals”. Later, Jaimee and Brandon came over. Jaimee spent the whole time with Sandy painting. Brandon spent the whole time running around playing He-Man. Brandon came out with a few beauties.

“I am He-Man, you (Grandpa) are Skeletor. I have 39 muscles and you have 29 muscles. I have more muscles than you”

“If Skeletor wins the people will loose faith”

Do not loose faith everyone. He-Man will protect you with his many muscles!

Birthday and Iguanas, What a Combination! August 2011

Hi All,

We had a birthday party on Saturday at our house. We had a “purple theme” since that is Emma’s favorite color. Purple table cloth, purple balloon, etc. We had a fish pond, croquet and badmitten in the yard. It was fun to be with everyone. Here are some pictures of the birthday girl and others.

We had an amazing event this week—we found a green iguana in our front yard! I tried to catch him but he was too quick. Here are some pictures of the beast:

Trip to New Hampshire, Connecticut, Washington DC--Aug 2011

Hi All,

On Friday August 6, 2011 we left for our trip back East with Kaelynn. Kaelynn wanted to go back there to see her old areas and friends. The first part of the trip we were in New Hampshire. We arrived in Manchester, stayed one night at a motel and then drove to Hampton/Portsmouth New Hampshire where we saw the sea coast. There were amazing, wealthy homes along the coast. We ate a lobster roll, which we weren’t too excited about. We saw the Joseph Smith birthplace in Sharon Vermont. It was a beautiful monument and visitors center. They also had pictures from the Hubble telescope which were very beautiful.

We then drove to visit Bruce and Connie. They are very kind and gracious. They live in a beautiful area on a semi-farm. They have a horse, chickens and lots of acres of room. We went to their church on Sunday and it was great to be in a small branch where everyone is needed. Bruce also commented that 39 years ago he accepted the Gospel.

Bruce and Connie took us to see some beautiful sites in New Hampshire and then on the day we left Bruce and Connie went with us to parts of lower New Hampshire that were very beautiful.

After visiting New Hampshire we drove to Torrington Connecticut where we visited with “Kaelynn’s people” (good friends she had taught or had just been friends with). Monday night we visited with Sarah and another foster family. The next day we visited with a friend of hers in the morning, went to the Chapel, paddled a canoe around a lake called the Tom Mountain State Park, walked down Litchfield town square, visited the Litchfield Historical Society and where the first law school was, then visited with other families.

The next day we ate breakfast with another of Kaelynn’s friends and visited an older friend.

We then drove to Fairfield. We wandered along the Beach, ate dinner at Friendly’s and stayed with one of Kaelynn's friends.

The next day we drove to Washington DC and visited the Holucost Museum. It was very moving and sad. We stayed with Darrel and Nancy who are in Washington DC as Temple Missionaries. They kindly let us stay with them for two nights.

The following morning we visited Ford’s theater (where Lincoln was shot), and multiple Smithsonian exhibits—American History, Natural Science and Air and Space.

Saturday we went to the Washington DC Temple and flew home.
